Medical Accommodation

YWCA Darwin operates the Medical Accommodation Program on behalf of the Department of Health and works closely with the Patient Assisted Travel Service (PATS).

BJH is a “Hotel with Heart” providing high standard and well appointed guest rooms for a guest and their carer.

Our guests travel arrangements are made by PATS who bring them from regional Northern Territory locations to stay while accessing treatment at the Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre. All of our rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with fridge/freezer, telephone, TV/DVD player, CD radio, alarm clock and all rooms have ensuites.*

The guest rooms are serviced daily with the linen being changed every three days, unless otherwise requested.

The facility provides three meals a day for our guests. There is self catering available in our communal kitchens, just ask the team for a cooking pack. You will also have access to our movie room, a games area, kiosk, guest laundry and internet.

For those that prefer quieter relaxation, we have a large library with a great variety of titles to choose from, or you could spend some time in the tranquillity garden in our courtyard.

Office hours are 7:00am to 11:00pm and there is always a staff member present on property.

*Excluding four transition guest rooms which have access to a shared bathroom.

DHPC offers guests from remote or regional areas a “home away from home” in one of our six three bedroom homes located within close proximity of the Royal Darwin Hospital and Casuarina Shopping Centre.

The facility has been established for people and approved carers from rural and remote areas to book through PATS to access medical or dental treatment.

There are also bus stops or small shopping centres located within walking distance of all of these homes.

All bookings are made by PATS for approved travellers.

Guests staying at these properties enjoy the fully equipped and furnished facilities, including privacy and security of their own locked room with a television and fridge provided in all guest rooms. Meals are delivered Monday to Friday and stored in the fridge/freezer of each room for our guests, these include breakfast, lunch and dinner. If guests prefer to prepare their own meals, they should advise the office staff that deliveries are not required for their stay

Guests should be self sufficient in caring and catering for themselves. A fully equipped kitchen is available for all guests to prepare their own meals. In the spirit of a shared house, guests are expected to be active participants in keeping the common areas clean and tidy. DHPC have staff come through the properties Monday to Friday, however you can contact the office for any enquiries.

Guests who require assistance after hours with lost keys, or keys locked in the room will be charged a call out fee of $25.00.

Bookings are processed by PATS and then confirmed with the office team at BJH for both accommodation properties. Visitors are welcome but not permitted to sleep over. Guests found in breach of the rules will be evicted.

BJH is a Department of Health property and is Non-Smoking and Alcohol Free. Smoking is only permissible in the designated areas. Guests found in breach of the rules will be evicted.
