YWCA Darwin has an advocacy plan in place, which is in line with our policy platform and strategic priorities and goals. With this plan in mind, we adovcate to realise our vision of empowering individuals, women and families in a safe and inclusive community. 

Termination of Pregnancy Law Reform; Improving access by Northern Territory Women to safe termination of pregnancy services' Discussion Paper (January 2017)

YWCA advocates for programs and policies that support women’s access to a responsive, respectful, affordable and appropriate health system and health policy that promotes women’s self-ownership, positive body image and positive sexuality. Being specifically pro-choice, YWCA Darwin took the opportunity to submit a response to the NT Government's 'Termination of Pregnancy Law Reform; Improving access by Northern Territory Women to safe termination of pregnancy services' Discussion Paper.

Territory Day of Action for the Prevention of Violence Against Women Asks (2017)

On a typical day in the Northern Territory there are 61 incidents relating to domestic and family violence and 89% of victims are Aboriginal women. In the Northern Territory, Aboriginal women are 40 times more likely to be hospitalised for family violence related assaults.

These asks have been pulled together very quickly and represent just a selection of issues related to violence against women in the Territory, further consultation is required to make sure all issues of violence against women and its prevention are canvassed and included.

Modernisation of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992 (NT) Discussion Paper (January 2018)

YWCA Darwin utilizes a human rights-based approach to its work, particularly focusing on the rights to non-discrimination and equality, placing emphasis on realising the rights of women and girls, especially the rights of those who often experience multiple and/or intersecting forms of discrimination.

YWCA Darwin took the opportunity to submit a response to the NT Government's  Modernisation of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992 (NT) Discussion Paper.
